LTA FAQ
What language experience /
level do I need to be?
Beginner students can be absolute beginners or students who want to
revise pronunciation and other building blocks of the language thoroughly.
Students with prior experience can enrol in the "Improvers/De-rust"
classes. These classes focus on polishing intonation and pronunciation while
progressing to students being "off paper" forcing them to recall and learn the
language required in a variety of scenarios.
The best results are achieved when the student combines an LTA course with
separate grammar and writing skills study. LTA will then help consolidate your
pronunciation, intonation and listening skills - you will be surprised how much
easier speaking is for you later on!
Do I need acting experience? Do I need to have talent?
No! You don't need experience or talent! But you do need to be willing to try
and follow the directors directions. You don't have to perform in front of the
class if you are really shy, but you have to be willing to stand up and act out
the actions of the script with your group. Acting can make you nervous at first
but after a while you forget that you were nervous to start off with!
Just like starting a conversation in a new language!
Why use Acting and Script-reading?
Acting requires you to really connect with the intonation and meaning of
the words you are saying. Using scripts introduces new vocabulary, revises
common sentence structures and a range of verb tenses and grammatical points.
Using scripts also means you can practice speaking without getting a headache
from the effort to translate and explain your thoughts!
About tutor Olivia Sumich
Interested in exploring fresh pedagogic approaches to language learning, Olivia
draws on her background in theatre to aid her on her quest to permeate her
students with the 'taste and feel' of the language they are learning while also
facilitating an environment where students feel supported to 'stick their necks
out' and communicate aloud in the new language right from the start - in spite
of the concerns every new learner has about making mistakes and 'not knowing'.
